Getting the most bang for your buck from progesterone tests

Looking for advise on getting the most effective progesterone tests done . Do you do an initial test once you 1st notice a bitch coming into season ,then adjust from there on timing ? What is the general thoughts on how often and when to start testing because in my area the tests run over $100 each so timing is important.

I start at about day 7....then if its under 2, wait 3 days and do another. If its over 2, I do them every 2 days or so. It helps to know the approx date (days into heat) you have bred her before. They don't always cycle the same, but its often similar.
